About the Service

Commercial vessels operate in environments where hull fouling, propeller contamination and underwater damage reduce efficiency over time. Dry docking is not always practical or economical for every underwater issue. Professional commercial diving often allows inspection, cleaning and selected repairs while the vessel remains afloat.

Bodursan Marine Services coordinates divers / underwater cleaning and repair services throughout Türkiye—working with approved diving contractors and technical specialists so owners, managers and offshore operators get planned, safe and well-documented underwater attendance.

Our role is coordination. Diving execution, dive safety systems and underwater workmanship sit with the appointed diving contractor. We organise planning, logistics, class/survey liaison where required and reporting—without publishing performance percentages or guaranteeing class outcomes.

Which page should you use?

Why underwater maintenance matters

Without attention below the waterline, vessels may see higher fuel use, reduced speed, greater engine load, poorer propeller efficiency, corrosion progression and unexpected damage discoveries. Routine inspection and cleaning programmes support performance and planning—results vary with fouling level, coating type, trading pattern and sea conditions.

Complete diving & underwater coordination

  • Underwater hull cleaning
  • Propeller polishing
  • Underwater inspections and damage surveys
  • UWILD coordination support
  • Selected underwater repairs / welding / cutting support (scope-dependent)
  • Rope / net removal
  • Sea chest, thruster and rudder inspections
  • Anode and sea-valve / overboard visual checks
  • Underwater photography and video documentation
  • Offshore diving logistics support
  • Emergency diving attendance (conditions permitting)

Every job is planned against vessel type, location, environment and applicable safety procedures—and only proceeds with required permissions.

Hull cleaning and propeller polishing

Fouling (algae, barnacles, mussels, biofilm) increases resistance. Underwater hull cleaning removes growth using methods suited to coating specifications and operational constraints. Propeller polishing addresses deposits and roughness that reduce propulsion efficiency. Benefits may include better speed/fuel behaviour and smoother running—without fixed percentage claims on this page.

Inspections, UWILD and documentation

Divers may inspect hull plating, propellers, rudders, sea chests, thrusters, stabilisers, bilge keels and anodes. Findings support maintenance planning before problems become dry-dock scope.

UWILD (Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Dry Dock) allows certain surveys afloat subject to class society approval and applicable rules. Bodursan helps with diving-contractor coordination, class attendance planning, port arrangements, scheduling, documentation and survey logistics—acceptance remains with class.

Photography and video strengthen technical reports, insurer packs, class reviews and repair quotations. Thickness measurements and anode condition checks can be coordinated where required for condition assessment.

Sea chests, thrusters, rudders, ropes and valves

Sea-chest cleaning can restore cooling flow when growth restricts intakes. Thruster and rudder inspections check tunnels, blades, grids, pintles/bearings and coating condition. Rope and fishing-net removal from propellers or thrusters restores manoeuvrability and limits damage risk. Sea-valve / overboard grille checks help spot blockages early.

Underwater repairs, welding and cutting

Selected afloat repairs—including underwater welding or cutting—may be coordinated when vessel condition, procedures, safety requirements and class recommendations allow. Typical scopes include minor steelwork, temporary emergency measures, debris/bracket removal or salvage-related assessment support. Not every defect is suitable for afloat repair; docking may still be required. See also dry docking services.

Emergency attendance and class liaison

Propeller fouling, impact damage, collision follow-up, leakage investigation or urgent visual assessment may need rapid diving attendance when weather, permissions and contractor capacity allow. Class/surveyor communication can be coordinated alongside the dive programme.

Offshore diving, salvage support and environment

Offshore applications may include platform/mooring visual surveys, structural assessments and installation verification logistics—often alongside offshore support. Salvage contexts may use divers for initial assessment and documentation; Bodursan is not positioning as a salvage contractor on this page.

Project planning should respect local environmental rules, coating protection and approved cleaning methods. Waste/landing issues during related port calls may connect to vessel waste disposal.

Safety and operational planning

Commercial diving carries inherent risk. Weather, visibility, current, vessel stability, dive communications, surface support, emergency recovery and permits must be addressed by the diving contractor under recognised standards. Bodursan’s contribution is operational planning and stakeholder communication—not a substitute for dive-team safety systems.

Pre-dive preparation may review drawings, objectives, conditions, providers, permissions, survey attendance and contingencies. Preventive programmes (periodic cleaning, polishing, inspections, anode checks and reporting) help owners stay ahead of performance loss.

Reporting

Structured reports may include scope, findings, photos/video references, observations, recommended actions and completion confirmation—so technical managers can plan docking, repairs or further monitoring.

Vessel types we support

Coordination covers container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, gas carriers, Ro-Ro/passenger vessels, offshore support units, tugs/harbour craft and—where scoped—offshore structures. Tanker/terminal jobs follow terminal and safety rules. Yard-period afloat work may pair with Tuzla or Yalova agency attendance.

Why choose Bodursan Marine Services

  • Clear underwater cleaning/repair focus—separate from project-diving and dry-dock pillars
  • UWILD and class-liaison coordination path without outcome guarantees
  • Emergency attendance start capability 24/7 (conditions permitting)
  • Photo/video reporting for technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Honest scope: coordination with approved divers, not fuel-% marketing

Frequently asked questions

What underwater services can Bodursan coordinate?

Hull cleaning, propeller polishing, inspections, rope removal, sea-chest cleaning, UWILD support, photography/video, damage surveys and selected underwater repairs through qualified commercial diving contractors.

Does Bodursan employ the divers?

We coordinate approved diving contractors. Dive execution and dive safety remain with the appointed diving company.

Can underwater cleaning improve fuel efficiency?

Removing fouling and polishing propellers can improve hydrodynamic performance. Actual fuel/speed benefit varies; we do not publish fixed percentage savings.

What is UWILD?

An underwater survey performed while afloat, subject to classification society approval and applicable regulations. We coordinate local logistics; approval sits with class.

Can divers remove ropes/nets or attend emergencies?

Yes—obstruction removal and urgent inspections can be arranged when conditions and permissions allow.

Can repairs be done without dry docking?

Some inspections and selected repairs may be completed afloat, depending on scope, safety, class requirements and conditions. Major work may still need docking.

Are pre-drydock underwater inspections useful?

Yes. They help prioritise repairs and improve docking scope planning—see also dry docking services.

Which areas do you cover?

Major Turkish ports, anchorages and offshore locations—scope confirmed per nomination.
