About the Service

Vessels operating through the Dardanelles and Çanakkale approaches often need to land ship-generated waste within a short operational window. Sludge, bilge mixtures, garbage and related streams must go to authorised reception arrangements—with usable documentation for the vessel’s records.

Bodursan Marine Services coordinates ship waste disposal in the Dardanelles area: arranging collection through authorised providers, aligning timing with the vessel’s programme and supporting documentation flow. Our role is operational coordination—not waste treatment ownership, and not assumption of the vessel’s MARPOL compliance liability.

For Istanbul / Bosphorus-approach waste coordination, use vessel waste disposal in Istanbul. For passage agency, see Turkish Straits transit agency and Dardanelles Strait Agents.

Which page should you use?

  • This page: Dardanelles / Çanakkale-area waste reception coordination.
  • Istanbul waste page: Istanbul area / Bosphorus approaches.
  • Port agency: overall call coordination that may include waste as one line item.

Typical waste streams we help arrange

Subject to facility acceptance and local rules, coordination may cover sludge, bilge water, garbage and food waste, hazardous/maintenance waste, sewage reception and cargo-residue related environmental support. Exact streams must be confirmed for each nomination—lists here are planning guidance, not a guarantee that every facility accepts every stream every day.

  • Collection scheduling and quantity verification
  • Authorised provider liaison
  • Documentation / receipt flow for vessel records
  • Alignment with transit or port attendance when bundled

Sludge, bilge, garbage and hazardous streams

Sludge and oily residues from machinery spaces are transferred ashore through authorised reception where required. Bilge mixtures are regulated; where ashore disposal is needed, we coordinate transfer—illegal at-sea discharge is not a service we offer.

Garbage categories commonly include food waste, plastics, paper, glass, metal and domestic refuse. Hazardous items (waste oils, paint residues, solvents, contaminated filters, batteries) need specialised authorised handling. Sewage reception can be timed to limit interference with the vessel’s programme.

Anchorage, documentation and risk control

Where regulations and conditions allow, collection at anchorage may be arranged via approved providers—subject to weather, permissions and capacity. We do not publish fixed barge arrival guarantees.

Accurate paperwork—declarations, receipts, quantity confirmation—helps masters demonstrate landing during inspections. Risks include delayed collection, incomplete documents, poor segregation and ETA changes; proactive liaison reduces impact but cannot remove all variables.

Frequently asked questions

Does Bodursan dispose of waste itself?

No. We coordinate collection through authorised environmental service providers and manage operational communication and documentation for the vessel.

Dardanelles or Istanbul—which waste page?

Use this page for Dardanelles / Çanakkale-area coordination. Use the Istanbul waste page for Istanbul / Bosphorus approaches.

Can sludge or garbage be landed during a short call?

Often yes, subject to regulations, provider availability, access and the vessel’s window. Early nomination improves fit.

Do you assume MARPOL compliance liability?

No. Compliance obligations remain with the vessel and its operators. We support arrangements and paperwork flow.
